Lund Contemporary - 100 år av 12-ton

  • ODEUM Kapellsalen, ODEUM, Paradisgatan 4 Lund, Skåne, 223 50 Sweden (map)

This year marks 100 years since the first compositions using the so-called twelve-tone technique were completed by Arnold Schönberg. The compositional technique, based on using each of the twelve notes of the octave equally and according to specific rules, was a way of trying to break free from the shackles of tonality and laid the foundations for much of the development of art music in the 20th century. In this concert, pianist Henrik Berg will perform some of these early twelve-tone compositions, as well as completely new pieces written by composer students from Malmö Academy of Music, based on or inspired by twelve-tone. The composer and Prof. Staffan Storm puts the twelve-tone technique in a music-historical perspective.
